Yesterday I arose about 8 am, did my morning rounds. At a little before ten I decided to go outside to check the weather, a few minutes later I was joined by Tim and we sat and discussed the garden. a little after ten the mail lady pulled up loudly talking on her cell (as usual) I turned my head and expected to hear her pull away. instead I heard "hey, what's going on at the factory?" I replied "I don't know" "Is there anyone over there?" "no, I don't think so" "well, it's on fire." Tim and I, both shocked, jumped from our seats and ran to see.
The factory was indeed spouting a thick plume of grey smoke. we ran back to inform the mail lady that we would call 911. The fire dept. arrived in about 10 min. the factory, now spouting a larger, thicker, considerably blacker and more flame filled plume of smoke, began reeking of burning rubber. the sky soon became black as flames leapt hundreds of feet into the air and spread throughout the factory. any space open to the outside air became filled with flame as the fire poured out the windows and crawled across the roof. bits of glowing material fluttered through the sky. and their charred remains rained on the neighborhood.
more fire depts screamed to the scene until there were 16 in all filling the streets. fire fighters ran up an down streets amid the roar of the blaze, trying in vain to find a useful water source to douse the glowing building. Hoses began unrolling up the street, stretching from chance pond, blocking the streets for many feet. ladders ascended to pour over the inferno. the building smoldered and glowed for many hours. the last crews left the scene at around 7 pm. but I still saw smoke as Tim left for work at 9 this morning. my clothes an hair smelled like smoke all night, the outer hallway still smells like it. at some points during the fire I could feel the intense heat while standing in the doorway. the traffic patrolling the area today is annoying as hell! I wish I had photos to show the devestation.
